Position: RAC member


Gordon Neighbourhood House is recruiting volunteers to help support grassroots, community-building projects through the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) and Greenest City Neighbourhood Small Grants program. NSG is a unique program where residents receive funds for projects that help to build a stronger community.

Neighbourhood Advisory Committee (NAC) Members are leaders in the community that help to promote and spread the word about the opportunity for potential Project Leaders. They also do the important work of reviewing grant applications in order to ensure that funds are going to projects that will be successful. After the application process, NAC members provide ongoing support and guidance to Project Leaders.


  • Help to promote the NSG opportunity throughout the Downtown Peninsula
  • Evaluate all grant applications and attend meetings to make grant decisions
  • Maintain contact with project leaders in order to provide support, and attend events
  • Report progress promptly to Coordinator
  • Help plan and host year-end celebration
  • Complete Surveys


  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enjoy engaging the public
  • Passionate about community

Skills and abilities required:

  • Prompt email responses required (1-2 days), especially during the grant application & review period (February-April)
  • Leadership experience
  • Previous event planning & experience dealing with the public preferred
  • Previous volunteer experience an asset
  • Ability to understand & follow guidelines for the grant-making process
  • Team player
  • Comfortable working & taking initiative in a fluid environment

Time Commitment:

  • Minimum one year commitment (February to December)
  • Approx. 10-15 hours per month from Feb – April
  • Approx. 5 hours per month from May – Nov
