Have you ever had an idea to bring your neighbours together but weren’t sure how to fund it? That’s where Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) come in! These grants are designed to support community-led projects that foster connection, belonging, and creativity. Whether it’s a community garden, a cultural celebration, a skill-sharing workshop, or a neighbourhood cleanup, NSG helps turn ideas into reality.

What Are Neighbourhood Small Grants?

NSG provides small amounts of funding—typically up to $500—to individuals who want to lead projects that benefit their neighbourhood. The best part? You don’t need to be part of an organization to apply, as these unique grants are specifically designed for residents. The grants are built on the idea that small actions can have a big impact. When neighbours come together, it strengthens the entire community.

Why Do Neighbourhood Small Grants Matter?

In a time when many people feel disconnected, local projects help create spaces where neighbours can meet, collaborate, and celebrate together. These grants empower residents to take the lead in shaping their communities in ways that reflect their unique needs and strengths.

Some inspiring past projects include:
🌱 A free gardening workshop where neighbours shared seeds, plants, and knowledge
🎨 A sidewalk chalk art festival that brought families together for a creative afternoon
🎶 A community concert featuring local musicians
🍲 A cultural cooking class where neighbours learned to make traditional dishes from each other’s backgrounds

These small but powerful projects make our communities more inclusive, welcoming, and vibrant.

How to Apply

Applying for a Neighbourhood Small Grant (NSG) is easy! Visit neighbourhoodsmallgrants.ca to learn more about the program, check your eligibility, and submit an online application before April 30th. If you don’t have a computer, visit Gordon Neighbourhood House and we can help you apply.

Gordon Neighbourhood House coordinates the program for residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Peninsula, including the West End, Coal Harbour, Davie Village, Downtown, and Yaletown.

If you have an idea, simply submit a short application with some basic information about yourself, a brief description of your project and its impact, and a simple budget (e.g., $150 for food, $50 for decorations). No prior experience with grants? No problem! The process is designed to be accessible to everyone.

Once you apply, a committee of neighbours reviews applications, awards funding, and works with you to help get your project approved. Whether you’re new to the area or a longtime resident, NSG is here to support your ideas and bring neighbours together!

Your Idea Matters

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish my neighbourhood had…” or “Wouldn’t it be great if we could…?” then a Neighbourhood Small Grant might be the perfect opportunity to make it happen. These grants prove that you don’t need a huge budget to make a difference—just a little support and a great idea.

Let’s keep building strong, connected, and joyful neighbourhoods—one small grant at a time. If you have any questions that aren’t answered on the NSG website, feel free to email us at welcome@gordonhouse.org—we’re happy to help!
