Have you ever had an idea to bring your neighbours together—maybe a small event, a workshop, or something creative—but weren’t sure how to get started? Through the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program, you can apply for up to $500 to bring your idea to life.

Neighbourhood Small Grants are available across the city. Gordon Neighbourhood House supports all residents on Vancouver’s downtown peninsula—including the West End, Coal Harbour, Yaletown, and Downtown South—to bring small, community-building ideas to life.

What kinds of projects are we looking for?
NSG is all about neighbours connecting with neighbours. Projects can be big or small, as long as they:

  • Bring people together
  • Build community strength and resilience
  • Encourage creativity and wellbeing
  • Help reduce social isolation

That could look like a community meal, a skill-sharing workshop, a cultural gathering, a garden project, or something entirely your own. If it brings people together, it fits.

Why apply?
Because small ideas can make a big impact. NSG is built on a few simple beliefs:

  • Everyone has something to offer—your ideas, skills, and experiences matter
  • Small is powerful—even a modest grant can spark connection and belonging
  • Local decisions matter—community members help decide which projects are funded
  • We learn together—there’s no one “right way” to build community

Many past participants say the process is just as meaningful as the project itself—building confidence, relationships, and a stronger sense of place.

Who can apply?
If you live on the downtown peninsula, you can apply. No experience is needed.

  • Open to people of all ages and backgrounds
  • You don’t need to be part of an organization
  • Projects must be free and open to the community

This year, we have up to 80 grants of up to $500 available—so now is a great time to apply. Funding is available until all grants are distributed.

How to apply
Applying is straight forward, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Just share where your project idea will take place, who’s involved, how it will bring neighbours together, and what you’ll need funding for (for example, $100 for food or $25 for printing).

You can apply online at:

The ‘Apply Now’ button is located in the top right of the webpage.

If you need support with your application, ideas, or budget, our team at Gordon Neighbourhood House is happy to connect with you.
