Out of School Child Care Worker
Job Description
Gordon Neighbourhood House’s Out-of-School care program is looking for an Out of School Care Worker to facilitate and implement exciting and educational programming for children ages 5 – 10. The Out of School Care Worker will work as a team to plan and execute creative, supportive, and FUN activities for up to 40 children. We are looking for interactive and positive role models who can engage with a variety of youth and parents in a supportive, community-driven environment. At Gordon House, we provide high-quality childcare as part of our broader commitment to a just, healthy, dynamic and intergenerational West End. We deeply embed principles of social justice into our program, which includes commitments to anti-racism, decolonization, and inclusion for children with disabilities as well as children from LGBTQ+ families. Our childcare is a progressive and dynamic place to work, and we are looking for the right people to move our program closer to that vision.
Flexible hours are available. The program runs from Monday to Friday 7:20 am – 9:20 am, and from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. We are looking for candidates who can work all, some or casual shifts. Starting rate $21.36/hour, 4-30 hours per week available. A competitive benefit package is available for all permanent staff over 17.5 hours per week. Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field, or a combination of relevant coursework and employment experience.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.
- Ability to facilitate, implement, and modify programs for children with differing abilities.
- Experience working in a licensed facility, in a leadership role with children ages 5-10 years.
- Effective time management, organization, and oversight of activities while working with a diverse range of ages and children’s abilities.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques
- Valid First Aid certification
- Class 4 license an asset
- Food Safe is an asset
