Position Overview:
The Community Programmer will be responsible for developing and facilitating seniors programming at Gordon Neighbourhood House, including the Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors (TAPS) under the direction of the Seniors Programs Manager. The TAPS program is an annually funded initiative that supports vulnerable seniors in Vancouver’s West End, including through provision of social, recreational, health and food security programs. In this role, you will also host activities and workshops to meet emerging seniors’ needs, develop supportive systems for local seniors, and will assist with a combination of front-line service, program facilitation, client advocacy and program administration. The Seniors Programmer will be expected to maintain a high-level knowledge of resources, best practices, and policies relevant to seniors, while working collaboratively with the seniors’ team to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate the program. Ongoing opportunities for networking and training will be provided.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management and Coordination
- Assist with planning, organizing, delivering and evaluating the TAPS program in accordance with goals and outcomes provided by the funder;
- Working collaboratively with local organizations, self-advocates, community groups, volunteers and partners to ensure the TAPS program builds on local assets and responds effectively to community needs;
- Organizing resources, including human (volunteer), financial and other resources in order to achieve the goals and outcomes of the TAPS program;
- Assist with supervising Program volunteers, manage schedules, duties, and administration;
- Assist with monitoring and reporting on program goals/outcomes, including collecting statistics and contributing to databases;
- Building relationships and maintaining communication with program stakeholders, community partners, health partners and service providers;
- Support program enrolment and marketing;
- Plan and implement any additional activities for seniors as required to meet emerging seniors needs, including information workshops and engagement opportunities
Community Development
- Assisting in creating and facilitating social, educational, recreational, health and/or food security programs for seniors;
- Building relationships with individual seniors and supporting the seniors in meeting short and long-term health, social and recreational goals, including through off-site activities and advocacy;
- Advocating for the needs of local seniors through participation in local committees and initiatives;
- Maintaining a strong knowledge of local resources, providing resources and referrals as needed;
- Actively engage the community in decision-making processes and building participatory leadership systems within the program.
- This position is also expected to support community and organization-wide events as a member of the Gordon Neighborhood Team
Skills and Qualifications
- Understanding and commitment to decolonization, equity, social justice and the neighbourhood house/place-based community development model.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills, including an understanding of professional boundaries and de-escalation. Strong critical thinking and communication skills; ability to act with sound judgment in alignment with ANHBC’s values, policies and procedures
- Post-secondary education and training in social services, planning, community development
- Minimum of 3 years working directly with community members, especially volunteers
- Minimum 3 years of experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating community programs
- Strong data management skills, especially when it comes to data gathering and safeguarding sensitive information
- Strong written communication skills and a high level of attention to detail
- Strong digital literacy and proficiency with Canva, Adobe, Microsoft Office, and Zoom.
- Ability to create content to engage volunteers, including creating posters and other marketing materials
- Proficiency in an additional language other than English an asset.
- First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain certification
- Must have a Driver’s License and access to a Vehicle
- Willingness to submit a driver’s abstract
- A cleared Criminal Record Check
This position is 35 hours per week and can include work on evenings and weekends.

Job Summary
In 2013, the West End Business Improvement Association (WEBIA) and Gordon Neighbourhood House (GNH) joined forces to launch the Clean Team—a grassroots initiative designed to keep West End streets and public spaces beautiful and welcoming. For over a decade, friendly Clean Team staff (often seen pushing their blue cleaning carts) have been picking up litter, erasing graffiti, and removing unauthorized posters along Davie, Denman, and Robson Streets five days a week. At the same time, dedicated volunteers contribute by pitching in at seasonal community clean-up events. Together, the Clean Team plays a vital role in keeping the West End clean, vibrant, and a community we can all take pride in.
Key Responsibilities
-Remove litter and debris from public sidewalks and plazas
-Remove unauthorized posters, stickers, and advertisements for public surfaces
-Clean or report graffiti on public surfaces and street furniture
-Identify and report illegal dumping and hazardous waste to relevant authorities
-Safely dispose of substance use paraphernalia
-Follows safety procedures, uses good judgment, and contact a supervisor if something unusual or unsafe occurs
-Engage with community members and local businesses in a respectful and friendly manner
-Help maintain a positive presence in the neighbourhood while promoting pride in public spaces
-Attend required training, workshops, meetings, and events
-Track and report activities as required (daily logs, photos, etc.)
Qualifications

Job Overview
Gordon Neighbourhood House (GNH) is seeking an experienced, creative and dedicated School Age Care Team Lead for the 40-space licensed school age care program at GNH.
Role and Responsibilities
-Responsible for staff supervision and leadership of the program. Supervises on-call and regular childcare staff, manages staff schedules, supports team building and staff professional development.
-Responsible for the maintaining and development the program to meet licensing requirements, GNH’s mission and vision, ANHBC’s best practices, and overall best practices within early childhood education.
-Lead the staff team to plan, evaluate, and implement daily activities in line that support and promote the holistic development of the child.
-Working with the Director of Child Care, lead the Child Care Team to explore and implement innovative programming, with a focus on inclusion and accessibility.
-Builds and maintains supportive and collaborative relationships with families, community partners and service providers. Works with the Director of Child Care to develop partnerships that can enhance the program.
-Adapt to changing circumstances, handles emergencies skilfully using discretion and confidentiality. A strong risk management and health and safety lens is required for this position.
-Oversees program registration, manage waiting lists, program inquiries, program petty cash, payroll on ADP and overall, is responsible for all Child Care Program operations.
-Able to be in program on the floor and to assist with ratio and other programming needs.
Qualifications and Skills
-Valid and current BC ECE license to practice, First Aid and Food Safe
-Valid Special Needs ECE license to practice is an asset

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing menus, preparing healthy, nutritious meals, managing food budgets and overseeing volunteers in the kitchen, ensuring that all food safety standards are strictly followed.
Key Responsibilities:
-Prepare menus and cook healthy meals for community meals, and special events
-Oversee kitchen volunteers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support as needed
-Ensure all food is prepared following FoodSafe best practices, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen
-Monitor food supplies, and ensure the efficient use of ingredients to minimize waste
-Set up and clean up kitchen and dining areas before and after meals
-Maintain punctuality and professionalism while working in a fast-paced environment

Gordon Neighbourhood House’s Out-of-School care program is looking for an Out of School Care Worker to facilitate and implement exciting and educational programming for children ages 5 – 10. The Out of School Care Worker will work as a team to plan and execute creative, supportive, and FUN activities for up to 40 children. We are looking for interactive and positive role models who can engage with a variety of youth and parents in a supportive, community-driven environment. At Gordon House, we provide high-quality childcare as part of our broader commitment to a just, healthy, dynamic and intergenerational West End. Flexible hours are available. The program runs from Monday to Friday 7:20 am – 9:20 am, and from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. We are looking for candidates who can work all, some or casual shifts.
